Flexbar: Apple Touch Bar Goes Universal with New 10-inch OLED Device

Engineers Unveil Standalone Version of Apple’s Touch Bar

A team of four engineers has introduced the Flexbar, a standalone version of Apple’s Touch Bar, through their newly formed company, Eniac. This innovative device aims to bring the functionality of the MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar to a wider range of users and devices.

The Flexbar is designed as a thin touchscreen display that can connect to multiple devices and platforms via USB. Featuring a 10-inch 2K OLED screen, it offers enhanced customizability compared to its Apple counterpart. Users can personalize the Flexbar’s functions to suit their specific needs across various applications and operating systems.

To bring the Flexbar to market, Eniac has launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. Early backers can preorder the device for $119, while the full retail price is set at $179. The company expects to begin shipping the Flexbar to customers starting February 2025.

Eniac plans to source components for the Flexbar through standard supply channels. However, the origin of the uniquely-sized screen remains unclear. The company has assured potential backers that they are not repurposing Apple’s limited supply of Touch Bar screens.

While the promotional videos demonstrate functional hardware, potential backers are advised to exercise caution. As with any crowdfunding campaign for a first-time product, there are inherent risks involved. The success of the Flexbar will depend on Eniac’s ability to navigate the challenges of new product development and delivery.

As the campaign progresses, tech enthusiasts and professionals alike will be watching closely to see if the Flexbar can successfully bring the Touch Bar experience to a broader audience.
