Twelve South Unveils Find My-Compatible USB-C Chargers
Twelve South has introduced its latest innovation in charging technology: the PlugBug 50 and PlugBug 120, the first USB-C wall chargers to feature Apple Find My support. These new devices, priced at $69.99 and $119.99 respectively, offer users the ability to track their chargers with the same precision as iPhones, iPads, or AirTags.
The PlugBug 50 boasts a 50W total output with two USB-C ports, capable of simultaneously charging a smartphone and tablet or slow-charging a laptop. Its more powerful counterpart, the PlugBug 120, delivers 120W through four USB-C ports, making it suitable for larger laptops or multiple smaller devices.
A standout feature of both models is their integration with Apple’s Find My network. Users can locate their chargers using the Find My app, with an added beeping function to assist in finding misplaced units or alerting when left behind.
For frequent travelers, Twelve South offers travel versions of both chargers for an additional $10. These variants come with interchangeable prongs compatible with outlets in various regions, including the US, UK, EU, Australia, South Korea, and China, all housed in a travel-ready case.
While the tracking capability adds a layer of security for travelers and commuters, some may question the practicality of tracking a device that is typically plugged into a wall. However, the charger can serve as a location tracker for bags or belongings until reaching the destination.
For those seeking a more cost-effective tracking solution, the $25 AirTag remains a viable alternative for monitoring personal items.
As the tech accessory market continues to evolve, Twelve South’s new PlugBug chargers represent an interesting fusion of charging technology and location tracking, catering to the needs of an increasingly mobile and connected consumer base.
