Rachael Schultz, who walked over 50 miles testing 25 different walking shoes, found the Rykä Devotion X to be specifically tailored for fitness walking. Unlike running shoes, these are designed with the unique biomechanics of walking in mind, featuring extra foam padding around the heel cups.
The shoe’s gradual support throughout the footbed is particularly beneficial for those with weak ankles. Its deep heel cup, padded with EVA proprietary foam, provides excellent shock absorption. The insole padding lifts arches and tapers out in a roomy toe box, while a well-ventilated mesh upper ensures breathability.
Samantha Crozier, who used the shoes for recovery after testing heels, praised their superior shock absorption and layers of foamy padding on the outsole. She described the experience as “walking on pillows” and noted the shoes’ buoyant feel.

However, potential buyers should note that the shoe may not be ideal for those who underpronate. There are also durability concerns due to minimal reinforcements in the knit upper, which may be an issue for those who wear through shoes quickly.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the Rykä Devotion X has received the Seal of Acceptance from the American Podiatric Medical Association. It’s particularly beneficial for individuals with sore arches, weak ankles, and inward rolling steps.
While the shoe’s strongest point is its heel cushioning, the knit upper may not withstand regular hard wear. Nevertheless, at under $100, the Rykä Devotion X offers significant value for those seeking a comfortable, supportive walking shoe.
