Nuio Debuts Innovative Magnetic Keyboard System to Enhance Computer Comfort
A new player in the ergonomic peripherals market, Nuio, has unveiled its groundbreaking Flow collection, centered around a wireless split keyboard with magnetic accessories. Founded by brothers Tom and Greg Wilson, the company aims to revolutionize computer use comfort through innovative design.
The Wilson brothers bring a wealth of experience to Nuio, with Tom’s background at tech giants Apple and Google, and both siblings having worked at renowned design firm Frog Design. Their combined expertise in design and manufacturing has culminated in the Flow system, a comprehensive set of peripherals designed to improve physical interaction with computers.
Nuio’s Flow keyboard, priced at $399, features a fully split design with two independent halves. Its radial, wave-shaped key layout aims to provide a more natural finger reach. The keyboard utilizes proprietary rubber dome switches and custom backlit concave keycaps, targeting users who prefer a laptop keyboard feel.
Built with stamped aluminum and equipped with rechargeable batteries, the Flow keyboard offers wireless connectivity via Bluetooth, with the ability to toggle between three different devices. The system’s modularity sets it apart from competitors like Logitech’s Ergo series and the ZSA Moonlander Mark I, allowing for easy customization of ergonomic layouts.
Complementing the keyboard are several accessories, including a $129 Deskpad for added grip, adjustable stands priced at $59 each or $99 for a pair, optional cushioned wrist pads for $99, and a $249 compact wireless touchpad with gesture support. These components magnetically attach to the keyboard, offering users a highly customizable setup.
While the Flow system boasts high-quality design and manufacturing, its total cost with all accessories surpasses that of comparable split keyboards like the ZSA Voyager and Moonlander Mark I. However, Nuio is betting on the system’s innovative features and modularity to justify the premium pricing.
Preorders for the Flow collection are now available, with various color options to choose from. The initial shipping date is set for December 1st, 2024, with additional versions and colors becoming available in January 2025. As Nuio enters the market, it aims to set a new standard in ergonomic computer peripherals, potentially reshaping how users interact with their devices in the future.
