Innovative Meditation Tool Aims to Revolutionize Breath Work Exercises
A new meditation device called Moksha is making waves in the wellness industry, offering users a unique approach to traditional breathwork exercises. Designed to help individuals breathe longer and deeper, the tool promises a range of benefits including calming effects, muscle relaxation, slower heart rate, and stabilized blood pressure.
Launched on Kickstarter with over 400 preorders, Moksha is now available for purchase on the company’s website. The brainchild of co-founders Yash Ghanekar and Jaymin Shah, the device was inspired by their personal experiences with anxiety and stress, as well as insights from Shah’s brother, a medical professional.
The Moksha lineup includes two main products: a $43 necklace with a metal pendant and a companion app, and a more advanced $150 smart breathing device. The latter features air pressure sensors and haptic feedback technology, designed to guide users through proper breathing techniques and meditation practices.
The smart device, which resembles a vape or cigarette to help redirect smokers, includes a vibration system for signaling inhaling and exhaling, eliminating the need for users to count breaths. It also tracks breathing data via Bluetooth and comes with a portable charging case offering up to 60 hours of battery life.
Safety and hygiene were key considerations in the design process. The device is nickel- and lead-free, contains no harmful chemicals or toxins, and features a removable and replaceable mouthpiece for easy cleaning.
Moksha’s companion iOS app offers a variety of features, including breath control games, playlists, and meditation exercises. Users can choose from five breath work categories: Calm, Energy, Morning, Recovery, and Sleep. The app also monitors meditation sessions and allows users to log their moods and thoughts.
Priced at $150, the Moksha smart breathing device is competitively positioned in the market, comparable to other meditation devices like Moonbird ($199) and The Shift ($65-$340).
Early user feedback has been positive, with individuals reporting benefits for various conditions such as collapsed lung disease, PTSD, and anxiety. The device has also shown promise in helping users establish a more consistent meditation practice and manage stress before challenging events.
Moksha offers a gamified reward system, providing discounts on coffee and clothing through partnerships with companies like Instacart, NBA Store, and Fanatics. While the handheld device can be used independently, full access to the app’s features is available for $8 a month.
The company has reported over $1 million in lifetime sales and has raised nearly $200,000 from Republic and angel investors. As Moksha continues to grow and develop new features, it aims to establish itself as a leading innovator in the meditation and wellness technology space.
