Apple Temporarily Disables AI Notification Summaries for News Apps in iOS 18.3
Apple has released iOS 18.3, introducing significant changes to its AI-powered notification summaries on iPhones. The update temporarily disables notification summaries for news and entertainment applications following concerns raised by the BBC about incorrect headline summarization.
Users will be notified when the feature becomes available again for these categories. Despite this adjustment, Apple Intelligence remains activated by default on supported devices, including iPhone 15 Pro and later models, iPads and Macs with Apple Silicon M1 chip or newer, and the latest iPad mini.
iOS 18.3 brings several new AI-driven enhancements aimed at improving user experience. Visual Intelligence now allows users to add events to their Calendar directly from posters or flyers. Additionally, a new feature has been introduced to easily identify plants and animals.
The macOS 15.3 update, released alongside iOS 18.3, includes support for Genmoji and implements similar changes to notification summaries as seen in the iOS update.
To differentiate AI-generated content, notification summaries will now be displayed in italicized text. Users can also access new settings to manage notification summaries directly from the lock screen.
iPhone users can download iOS 18.3 by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update on their devices.
