Apple Unveils Enhanced MagSafe Charger with 25W Charging for iPhone 16
Apple has introduced a new, more powerful version of its MagSafe charger during the recent iPhone 16 event. The updated charger boasts compatibility with all iPhones and Qi2 devices, but its standout feature is the ability to deliver up to 25W wireless charging exclusively for the new iPhone 16 models.
This enhanced charging rate surpasses the capabilities of competitors, with Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series maxing out at 15W and Google’s Pixel 9 phones ranging from 15W to 23W when using the second-generation Google Pixel Stand. Notably, Pixel 9 models are limited to 12W charging on standard Qi chargers.
The new MagSafe charger offers tiered charging capabilities based on device compatibility. For the fastest wireless charging up to 25W, iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro users can expect to reach 50 percent battery capacity in approximately 30 minutes. This requires the separately sold 30W USB-C Power Adapter. Devices from iPhone 12 onwards support fast wireless charging up to 15W, while iPhone 8 or later with Qi compatibility can charge wirelessly up to 7.5W.
Apple has priced the 1m version of the charger at $39, with a 2m option available for $49. It’s worth noting that the new iPhones do not include chargers in the box, necessitating separate purchases for optimal charging performance.
The charger’s compatibility extends beyond the latest models, supporting every iPhone from the iPhone 8 to the iPhone 16 line, as well as all AirPods with wireless charging capabilities.
As Apple continues to push the boundaries of wireless charging technology, this new MagSafe charger represents a significant step forward in charging speeds for mobile devices.
