Apple Enhances Find My App with Temporary AirTag Location Sharing
Apple is set to introduce a new feature to its Find My app in the upcoming iOS 18.2 update, allowing users to temporarily share an AirTag’s location with airlines or trusted individuals. This enhancement aims to streamline the process of locating lost luggage, addressing a common travel concern.
The new “Share Item Location” option generates a link that provides access to the AirTag’s location. When opened on Apple devices, the link directs users to the Find My app, while non-Apple device users will be directed to a web page displaying a map of the item’s last known location.
To ensure privacy and security, the shared link automatically expires after one week or upon the item’s return. Users can monitor the number of people who have accessed the link and have the option to include their contact information for easier communication.
This update builds upon Apple’s September 2023 enhancement, which allowed AirTag location sharing with up to five people. The latest feature expands this capability, enabling temporary sharing with a broader audience without requiring manual revocation of access.
As Apple continues to refine its location-sharing technology, this update represents a significant step towards improving the user experience, particularly for travelers concerned about lost luggage.
