Apple Set to Launch AI-Powered Image Generation in iOS 18.2
Apple is gearing up to introduce a groundbreaking AI-powered image generation feature in its upcoming iOS 18.2 update. While the recently released iOS 18.1.1 focused on bug fixes, the next major update will bring “Image Playground,” a tool allowing users to create cartoon-like images from text descriptions.
Image Playground is part of Apple Intelligence, the tech giant’s suite of AI-driven tools. This new feature will enable users to generate images based on text prompts, producing cartoon-style visuals accessible through a dedicated app or within the Messages app. The app icon is rumored to resemble a white cat, fox, or another furry creature.
To generate images with Playground, users will input text descriptions such as “a dog blowing out birthday candles on a cake.” The tool will then produce several options for users to swipe through and select. For more precise results, users can provide detailed descriptions or utilize Apple’s recommendations.
In addition to text-based generation, Image Playground will allow users to upload personal photos and generate AI images with customizable elements. The feature will also offer various art styles, enabling users to create different visual effects.
While Image Playground is currently part of the iOS 18.2 public beta, it is only available to those enrolled in Apple’s beta software program. The official release is expected to roll out to all users in December.
This move by Apple signifies a major step into the AI-generated content arena, potentially revolutionizing how iOS users create and share visual content on their devices.
