Anbernic Unveils RG34XX: A Nostalgic Nod to Game Boy Advance
Retro gaming enthusiasts have a new reason to celebrate as Anbernic announces its latest handheld device, the RG34XX. This new offering draws heavy inspiration from Nintendo’s iconic Game Boy Advance (GBA), blending nostalgia with modern gaming capabilities.
The RG34XX maintains the classic GBA form factor while incorporating additional action and shoulder buttons to accommodate newer game titles. Consumers can choose from a range of color options, including transparent red and green, as well as the classic GBA purple and black.
At the heart of the RG34XX is a larger 3.4-inch display, boasting a 720×480 resolution with a 3:2 aspect ratio. This upgrade significantly improves visibility compared to the original GBA’s non-backlit screen, while still preserving the authentic look of GBA titles and older 4:3 games.
Although specific processor details remain unconfirmed, industry insiders speculate that the device may utilize the Allwinner H700 chipset. The RG34XX is expected to support games from older consoles up to the original PlayStation, with the potential to run some Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast titles.
Connectivity features include Wi-Fi for online play and PC game streaming via Moonlight, Bluetooth for wireless controller support, and a mini HDMI port for TV connectivity. The device also sports a USB-C port for charging and dual microSD slots for ROM and OS storage.
This release continues Anbernic’s trend of creating devices inspired by Nintendo designs, following their earlier RG35XXSP, which was based on the Game Boy Advance SP. While Anbernic is known for improved screens and processors in their devices, they have also faced criticism for pre-installing pirated ROMs.
As the retro gaming market continues to evolve, the RG34XX represents another step in the ongoing fusion of classic design and modern technology.
