Amazon Fire TV Boosts Accessibility with Dual Audio and Enhanced Features for Hearing and Visually Impaired Users

Amazon Enhances Fire TV Accessibility with New Features

Amazon has unveiled a series of accessibility improvements for its Fire TV platform, aimed at enhancing the viewing experience for users with hearing and visual impairments. The announcement includes the introduction of a “Dual Audio” feature, expanded hearing aid support, and more accessible packaging designs.

The company’s latest innovation, the “Dual Audio” capability, will debut exclusively on the Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series. This groundbreaking feature allows simultaneous audio output through both hearing aids and TV speakers, facilitating shared viewing experiences for hard-of-hearing users and their companions. The launch date for this feature is expected to be announced soon.

In collaboration with WS Audiology (WSA), Amazon is broadening its Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids (ASHA) support to include additional devices. The expanded compatibility now encompasses Widex Moment BTE and RIC hearing aids, enabling audio streaming from ASHA-enabled Fire TV devices. This feature is supported across various Fire TV models, including the Omni Mini-LED Series, Omni QLED Series, Cube, 4-Series, 2-Series, and Omni Series.

Amazon is also addressing the needs of visually impaired customers with its newly designed accessible packaging. The revamped boxes feature tactile-marked QR codes with raised UV dots, positioned in the top left corner of the back panel inside the box. This enhancement is being rolled out for select Amazon devices, including Fire TVs, Echo Show models, Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Colorsoft, and Kindle Scribe.

These initiatives underscore Amazon’s commitment to improving accessibility across its product range, ensuring a more inclusive entertainment experience for all users.
