World App Expands Network with Mini Apps, Launches Developer Rewards Program
World, the app created by Sam Altman’s Worldcoin project, is expanding its network by promoting the creation of “Mini Apps.” The platform, now available in over 100 countries with nearly 25 million users, has introduced World 3.0 as a “Super App” similar to WeChat or Rappi, featuring a human-centric App Store for Mini Apps.
These Mini Apps are designed to be “everyday apps optimized for real humans” and integrate with World ID, wallet, and contacts. To encourage development, World has announced a “Developer Rewards” pilot program starting April 1. The initiative will distribute $300,000 in WLD tokens monthly to qualifying developers over three months, following the “World Build” incubator program launched in January.
One success story emerging from this ecosystem is Credit, a Mini App developed by Diego Estevez in Argentina. Credit offers instant microcredit ranging from $5 to $100 without relying on credit scores or collateral. With 100,000 downloads and 15,000 loans issued, the app supports everyday necessities and highlights the demand for accessible credit in developing regions.
As World aims to expand its user base to 1 billion and beyond, it faces both opportunities and challenges. The network’s goal is to provide everyone the opportunity to register, but it has encountered regulatory hurdles in countries like Kenya, Spain, and South Korea. Critics have raised concerns about the platform’s use of biometric data and WLD grants in developing countries.
Despite these challenges, World continues to position itself as a solution to the AI boom’s existential crisis. The platform enables secure and anonymous online identity verification for 12 million users. Tiago Sada, head of product at Tools for Humanity, describes World as the “freedom stack,” emphasizing anonymity and self-custody.
As World continues to grow and evolve, its impact on digital identity and financial inclusion remains a topic of interest for both supporters and critics alike.
