Engaging Teens with Virtual Reality: A Challenge Yet to be Met

A new survey by investment bank Piper Sandler has revealed that virtual reality technology has failed to capture the imagination or interest of American teens. Despite its growing popularity among adults, VR technology has been unable to make a lasting impression on young people in the United States.

The survey found that only 4% of teens have used virtual reality within the last year and only 7% said they were interested in using it in the future. This is despite an increase in VR content available for streaming services such as Netflix and YouTube, as well as more affordable headsets being released onto the market over recent years.

Experts suggest this lack of engagement may be due to teenagers’ preference for more tactile experiences when engaging with digital media, such as playing video games or watching movies on their phones or tablets rather than through a headset device. Additionally, there is also evidence suggesting many teenagers are not aware of what exactly virtual reality entails and how it can be used for entertainment purposes beyond gaming applications; something which companies need to address if they wish to engage with younger audiences effectively moving forward.
