Change your passwords — LastPass has been hacked, again (and Apple Passkeys can’t come quick enough)

Password management service LastPass has been hacked for the second time in six months. Hackers accessed ‘certain elements’ of ‘customers’ information’ from a third-party cloud storage service. Apple has been pushing its Passkeys feature, which looks to do away with alphanumeric passwords. Passkeys are end-to-end encrypted, locked behind a user’s TouchID and FaceID data. If Passkeys prove more secure than services like LastPass, it may reshape the password and personal digital security landscape altogether. Apple’s Passkey feature has begun to roll out with the introduction of iOS 16, but it’ll be some time yet before all websites and services integrate it into their security layers. . . .
