Technical Glitches Delay Musk-Trump Chat, Sparking Criticism and Skepticism
Elon Musk’s highly anticipated online conversation with former President Donald Trump faced a significant setback on Monday, as technical difficulties delayed the event by more than 40 minutes. The incident has reignited concerns about the platform’s infrastructure following extensive layoffs of skilled engineers.
Musk attributed the delay to a “massive” distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, though he provided no evidence to support this claim. The explanation was met with widespread skepticism from users on the platform, many of whom criticized the recurring infrastructure issues.
One user pointedly remarked on the consequences of “dismantling your infrastructure and then trying to host a high-profile event,” highlighting the perceived connection between recent staff reductions and technical problems.
The delay quickly became a subject of mockery among users, with some humorously suggesting they might use a DDoS attack as an excuse for everyday failures. This incident drew comparisons to a previous technical failure during Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s election bid launch on Twitter Spaces, which also experienced significant delays.
The technical issues have not gone unnoticed by political figures. Trump himself had previously criticized Musk’s platform during DeSantis’s event, calling it a “DISASTER!” on Truth Social. Vice President Kamala Harris also weighed in, suggesting that both Musk and Trump’s campaigns primarily serve “self-obsessed rich guys,” while pointedly noting their inability to successfully run a live stream in 2024.
This latest incident adds to a series of controversies surrounding Musk, including recent criticism from his daughter regarding Walter Isaacson, the biographer of both Musk and Steve Jobs.
As the platform continues to face scrutiny over its technical capabilities and management decisions, questions remain about its ability to host high-profile events without significant disruptions.
