Chrysler Unveils Plans for All-Electric Pacifica Minivan
Chrysler has announced the development of a fully electric version of its popular Pacifica minivan, marking a significant step in the automaker’s electrification strategy. The new model is slated to debut following a design refresh inspired by the Stellantis Halcyon concept.
Currently, the Pacifica lineup includes a traditional gas-powered version and a plug-in hybrid offering a 32-mile electric range. Chrysler CEO Christine Feuell confirmed the plans for the all-electric model but did not provide details on the future of the plug-in hybrid variant.
The upcoming design refresh is expected to incorporate elements from the Stellantis Halcyon concept, known for its distinctive curvy design featuring bubbly fenders and a unique roofline. This aesthetic update aims to give the Pacifica a more modern and aerodynamic appearance.
Engineering challenges lie ahead for Chrysler as they adapt the Pacifica’s signature “Stow ‘N Go” seating system to accommodate the battery-electric vehicle (BEV) powertrain. Potential solutions under consideration include storing second-row seats under the front seats or implementing a rail system for sideways sliding of outboard seats.
