Amazon Web Services (AWS) recently announced plans to invest $3.5 billion into data centers in Northern Virginia. This investment will create 5,000 jobs and generate an estimated $195 million in state revenue over the next six years. AWS is a leading provider of cloud computing services and this move will expand its presence in the region, creating more opportunities for businesses to benefit from its services.
The new data centers are expected to be operational by 2024. They will provide a secure platform for customers’ critical applications as well as support innovation through advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. Additionally, AWS has committed to investing $2 million in workforce development programs focusing on STEM education at local universities across Virginia. This investment will produce highly-skilled workers needed for these positions once they become available and help drive economic growth throughout the area long-term.
