Xiaomi Hits 100,000 EV Milestone: CEO Sleeps on Factory Floor as Company Races to Dominate Global Market

Xiaomi Celebrates Milestone: 100,000 Electric Vehicles Produced in 230 Days

Xiaomi, the Chinese tech giant, has reached a significant milestone in its foray into the electric vehicle market. CEO Lei Jun announced that the company has produced 100,000 units of its Xiaomi SU7 electric vehicle in just 230 days since its launch in March.

To emphasize his dedication to the project, Lei shared a photo of himself sleeping on the factory floor, reminiscent of similar gestures made by other tech industry leaders.

The Xiaomi SU7, short for Speed Ultra 7, is the company’s first electric vehicle offering. Available in four versions – SU7, SU7 Pro, SU7 Max, and SU7 Ultra – the EV has garnered significant attention and praise since its debut.

Industry recognition has come from unexpected quarters, with Ford CEO Jim Farley commending the SU7 for its high demand and quality. However, success has not come without challenges. Xiaomi’s EV division reported a loss of $252 million in the second quarter of this year, despite selling 27,307 SU7s during that period. This translates to a loss of approximately $9,200 per vehicle sold.

Undeterred, Xiaomi aims to reduce production costs by scaling its EV operations. Lei Jun’s commitment to the project is evident in his hands-on approach, drawing parallels to Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s well-known work ethic of sleeping on factory floors.

Often referred to as “The Steve Jobs of China,” Lei Jun’s leadership style and innovative approach continue to shape Xiaomi’s path in the tech industry. His recent actions highlight the company’s determination to succeed in the competitive EV market.

While financial challenges persist, Xiaomi remains optimistic about its future in the electric vehicle sector. The rapid production of 100,000 SU7 units marks a significant achievement for the company, signaling its serious intent to become a major player in the global EV market.
