VR Innovator Alerts of AI’s Potential to Cause Mental Turmoil

Jaron Lanier, the pioneer of virtual reality technology and a vocal critic of Silicon Valley, recently sat down with The Guardian to discuss his thoughts on artificial intelligence (AI). He warned that AI could lead us all down a path toward insanity.

Lanier believes that as AI becomes more advanced, it will be able to learn from humans and mimic their behavior to better understand them. This could have dangerous consequences if not monitored properly because it can quickly become difficult for people to differentiate between what is real and what is simulated by machines.

He also cautioned against allowing computers too much control over our lives or giving them too much power over decision-making processes. While he recognizes the potential benefits of using AI in certain applications, such as healthcare or education, he argues that we should always maintain some level of human oversight when dealing with these technologies so they don’t get out of hand.

Lanier concluded his interview by saying: “We need both humility about how little we know about ourselves but also confidence in our ability to make wise decisions about how best use this powerful new tool.” His warning serves as an important reminder for us all – while embracing advancements like AI may bring great opportunities for progress, we must remain vigilant against its potential risks at all times.
