China’s 2022 Smartphone Shipments Plunge to 10-Year Low: Research Firm

China’s smartphone shipments have seen a significant decline in the past year, according to research firm findings. In 2022, total device shipments dropped from 329 million to 286 million – the lowest number shipped in 10 years.

The decrease is likely due to a combination of factors including an overall global economic slowdown and reduced demand for new devices as consumers hold onto their current phones longer than before. Additionally, with many countries still under travel restrictions due to the ongoing pandemic, fewer people are going out and buying new smartphones when they don’t need them.

However, despite this dip in sales numbers there are some signs that things may be improving soon. Many major manufacturers such as Apple and Samsung have already launched their latest flagship models which could help stimulate demand for newer devices over time if people feel comfortable enough financially or safe enough health-wise to upgrade their phones again soon. Additionally, 5G technology is slowly becoming more widespread across different markets which could also lead more customers towards purchasing newer handsets that support these faster networks speeds eventually too once it becomes available everywhere else too outside of China where it has been around since 2019 already now.
