BuzzFeed columnist, Matt Bellassai, had some strong words for the company’s CEO Jonah Peretti following his announcement to incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into BuzzFeed’s content operations. In a recent tweet, Bellassai told Peretti to “get f*cked” over the decision.
The move has caused uproar among many of BuzzFeed’s employees who feel that AI is being used as an excuse to cut jobs and reduce costs in order to maximize profits. Furthermore, they fear it will lead to a decrease in quality journalism and creativity on the site due their work being replaced by automated algorithms.
Bellassai believes that this decision goes against everything he loves about working at BuzzFeed – its commitment towards creating meaningful content and providing opportunities for young journalists like himself – something which he feels cannot be achieved through AI-generated articles alone. He also worries that this could have serious implications not only on him but other writers as well whose livelihood depends upon writing quality stories for readers around the world each day.
