Sony Extends Warranty for InZone Gaming Monitors, Includes OLED Burn-in Coverage
Sony has announced a significant extension to the limited warranty for select InZone gaming monitors, increasing coverage from one to three years. In a move that addresses a common concern among OLED display users, the company has also included burn-in coverage for its 27-inch M10S OLED model.
The warranty extension applies to both the InZone M10S OLED and M9 II LED monitors, which were initially launched with only a one-year warranty. While other aspects of the limited warranties remain unchanged, the inclusion of burn-in coverage for the OLED model marks a notable shift in Sony’s approach to consumer protection.
Historically, manufacturers have been reluctant to address burn-in issues, often categorizing them as part of “normal use.” OLED panels, known for their superior picture quality, have been more susceptible to burn-in, especially when displaying static images for extended periods. However, recent technological advancements have made OLED displays more resistant to this issue.
Sony’s decision aligns with an emerging industry trend. In 2022, Alienware set a precedent by including OLED burn-in coverage in its three-year warranty for its QD-OLED monitor. LG followed suit, agreeing to warrant its OLED monitors against burn-in after being prompted by tech publication The Verge.
Other major manufacturers have adopted varying approaches to OLED burn-in coverage. Samsung’s warranty policies differ across models, with confirmed burn-in coverage for some, such as the 32-inch Odyssey OLED G8. MSI and Asus have also committed to covering OLED burn-in on select models in certain regions.
As policies continue to evolve, consumers are advised to carefully verify warranty details for burn-in coverage on specific models before making a purchase. This latest move by Sony represents a growing recognition of consumer concerns and a commitment to product longevity in the competitive gaming monitor market.
