Halide Introduces Lockscreen Shortcut for iOS 18 Users
In a significant update for photography enthusiasts, Halide, the popular advanced camera app, has announced a new feature for iOS 18 users. The latest version, Halide 2.16, now allows users to access the app directly from their iPhone’s lockscreen without the need to unlock the device.
Previously, this convenient access was limited to Apple’s native camera app, giving it a speed advantage over third-party alternatives. Halide users had to rely on a lockscreen widget and unlock their device via Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode to access the app’s advanced features.
The update bridges this gap, enabling users to replace either the default camera or flashlight shortcut on their lockscreen with Halide. This change puts the app’s professional-grade features, including manual shutter speed adjustments and the “Process Zero” option for unprocessed images, at users’ fingertips.
To set up the new shortcut, users can long-press on the lockscreen, tap “Customize,” and then tap the lockscreen again. They can then remove either the default flashlight or camera shortcut and replace it with Halide by pressing the “+” button. The app will be listed in the Capture section for selection.
While this update enhances accessibility, it’s worth noting that Halide is a premium app. Users can opt for a monthly subscription at $2.99, a discounted yearly plan at $19.99, or a one-time purchase for $59.99.
This development marks a significant step in leveling the playing field between native and third-party camera apps on iOS, potentially changing how users interact with their device’s photography capabilities.
