Fresno State President Responds to Resignation Petition
Fresno State President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval has responded to a petition calling for his resignation, expressing surprise at the move and emphasizing the university’s balanced budget and financial transparency.
The petition, which includes logos of the California State University Employees Union (CSUEU) and California Faculty Association (CFA), has drawn criticism from CSUEU President Catherine Hutchinson. She cited poor management and financial prioritization as reasons for demanding Jiménez-Sandoval’s resignation, stating that a change in leadership is necessary to foster a new culture at the university.
In his response, Jiménez-Sandoval claimed that many union members and Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) leadership were unaware of the petition. He plans to meet with union leadership to better understand the situation and reaffirm his commitment to open dialogue and community engagement.
“I was surprised by this petition, as it seems many union members and ASI leadership were not aware of its circulation,” Jiménez-Sandoval stated. “We have consistently provided transparent financial explanations and maintained a balanced budget at Fresno State.”
Looking ahead, the president announced his intention to hear from the community during the campus’ next open forum, scheduled for September 26 at 11 a.m. in the library. He views this as an opportunity for constructive conversation and to address any concerns directly.
Jiménez-Sandoval concluded by reiterating his dedication to Fresno State and its mission, emphasizing the importance of open and productive dialogue for the university’s continued success.
As this situation develops, the Fresno State community awaits further discussions between the administration and union leadership to address the concerns raised in the petition.
