Apple Unveils iPhone 16 Series, Preorders Open Tomorrow
Apple has officially announced its latest iPhone lineup, with preorders for the new iPhone 16 models set to begin tomorrow, September 13th, at 8AM ET / 5AM PT. The new series, which includes the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max, is scheduled to hit stores on September 20th.
While not a drastic overhaul from last year’s iPhone 15 series, the new models boast updated processors and a novel Camera Control button. Apple enthusiasts can look forward to the introduction of Apple Intelligence, slated for release with iOS 18.1 beta in October.
The base iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, described as “trickle-down” models, inherit features from last year’s Pro line, including the Action Button, a short-telephoto 2x crop mode, and an autofocusing ultra-wide camera with macro capabilities. Both models feature the new A18 chip, though the Pro versions are equipped with the more powerful A18 Pro. The standard iPhone 16 retains a 60Hz refresh rate.
Pricing for the iPhone 16 starts at $799, with the 16 Plus beginning at $899. The Pro models see a slight increase in size, with the iPhone 16 Pro featuring a 6.3-inch display and the Pro Max boasting a 6.9-inch screen. These premium models maintain their titanium frame construction and introduce a new “desert titanium” finish. The iPhone 16 Pro is priced from $999, while the Pro Max starts at $1,199.
Major carriers are offering various incentives for the new iPhones. AT&T is providing new and existing customers the opportunity to get an iPhone 16 free via monthly bill credits or significant discounts on other models with eligible trade-ins. T-Mobile’s Go5G Next plan customers can receive an iPhone 16 Pro free after credits or $1,000 off any iPhone 16 model.
As the preorder date approaches, Apple has implemented a pre-preorder system to streamline the process for customers. Best Buy and other retailers are expected to open their preorders concurrently with Apple.
