Trump Eyes Musk for Cabinet Role, Cites Tesla and SpaceX Commitments as Hurdles

Trump Considers Musk for Cabinet, Cites Business Commitments as Potential Hurdle

Former President Donald Trump has addressed speculation about Elon Musk potentially serving in his hypothetical White House cabinet, should he win a second term. While acknowledging Musk’s expertise, Trump expressed doubt about the feasibility of such an appointment due to Musk’s demanding schedule with Tesla and SpaceX.

“Elon’s a very capable guy,” Trump stated. “But he’s got his hands full with those companies. It might be difficult for him to take on a cabinet role.”

This comment could provide Trump with a diplomatic exit from his recently formed alliance with Musk, while still leaving the door open for collaboration. Trump suggested that even without a formal cabinet position, Musk could still offer valuable consultation, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence.

The relationship between Trump and Musk has seen a significant shift in recent years. Just two years ago, the pair were engaged in a public feud, exchanging insults on social media. However, as Musk has become increasingly involved in right-wing politics, their relationship has warmed considerably.

Last month, following an alleged assassination attempt on Trump, Musk publicly endorsed the former president. Additionally, Musk played a role in forming a pro-Trump super political action committee in May.

Trump has recently returned to posting on X (formerly Twitter), the platform owned by Musk, after a period of exclusively using his platform, Truth Social.

Both men have hinted at the possibility of working together if Trump secures a second term. Musk has suggested creating a government efficiency commission and expressed willingness to assist in various capacities.

Despite their newfound alliance, Trump’s recent comments suggest that some distance will remain between them. “Elon and I have a great relationship,” Trump said. “He’s a brilliant guy. But running the country is a full-time job, and so is running multiple companies.”

In related news, the United Auto Workers union has filed federal labor charges against both Musk and Trump over alleged union-busting comments.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, the potential collaboration between these two high-profile figures remains a topic of keen interest and speculation.
