50 U.S. airports slated to have a buffer zone in place when major wireless carriers roll out their new 5G service. Airlines want the new service to be banned within two miles of airport runways. Airlines say the service would interfere with aircraft technology and cause flight disruptions. AT&T and Verizon say their equipment will not interfere with planes’ electronics. The enhanced service is said to have faster internet speeds and enhanced bandwidth compared to 4G. The FAA says it would need to impose restrictions on flight operations using certain altimeter equipment in proximity to 5G antennas, which it noted could lead to flight disruptions. The FAA has issued a statement Tuesday urging a delay in the 5G rollout around various airports in order to resolve the concerns. . . .
