Xiaomi 15 Ultra: Leica-Inspired Camera Powerhouse with 200MP Periscope Lens Unveiled

Xiaomi Unveils New Ultra Smartphone with Enhanced Leica Camera Design

Xiaomi is set to launch its latest flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, featuring an innovative design that pays homage to traditional Leica cameras. Official renders of the device have been released, showcasing a striking aesthetic that blends smartphone functionality with classic camera styling.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s rear panel boasts a distinctive duo-tone design, combining white and rough-finished black vertical strips. The standout feature is a large, round camera protrusion that unmistakably mimics the look of a Leica camera, complete with prominent Leica branding.

Leaked images circulating on Weibo depict users holding the device as they would a traditional camera, emphasizing its photography-centric design. Despite its camera-like appearance, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra does not include a physical shutter button.

The smartphone is expected to house a cutting-edge camera system, potentially featuring a 200-megapixel periscope setup. The comprehensive camera array includes a 4.3x optical zoom periscope camera, a 50-megapixel primary camera with optical stabilization, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 50-megapixel 3x optical zoom camera with optical stabilization. For selfies and video calls, a 32-megapixel front-facing camera is integrated into the display.

Powering the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. The device boasts a 5,410mAh battery supporting 90W wired HyperCharge, 80W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging capabilities. Memory configurations include 16GB of RAM, with storage options of 512GB or 1TB, varying by region.

The smartphone features a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 3200×1440 pixels and a variable refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120Hz. An in-display fingerprint reader provides secure authentication.

This latest collaboration with Leica follows Xiaomi’s previous experiments with the German camera manufacturer’s brand licensing. Past projects have included the concept 12S Ultra, which incorporated a full-size Leica lens, and a camera grip kit for the 13 Ultra model.

As Xiaomi continues to push the boundaries of smartphone photography, the 15 Ultra represents a bold step in merging the aesthetics of traditional cameras with the functionality of modern mobile devices.
