Microsoft Unveils Colorful Battery Icons for Windows 11
Microsoft is set to introduce a significant update to Windows 11, featuring new color-coded battery icons designed to enhance user experience and device management. The tech giant aims to provide clearer, at-a-glance communication of battery status through this visual overhaul.
The updated battery indicator will utilize three distinct colors to represent different power states. A green icon will signify that the computer is charging and in good condition. When the battery level drops below 20% and enters energy-saving mode, the icon will turn yellow. For critically low battery levels requiring immediate charging, users will see a red icon.
These new colored icons will be prominently displayed in the taskbar’s system tray, quick settings flyout, and Windows Settings. Microsoft has also announced plans to incorporate these icons into the Lock screen in future builds.
In addition to the color changes, the update includes several other improvements to the battery indicator. The company has simplified overlays to prevent obstruction of the icon’s progress bar. Users will also have the option to display the battery charge percentage next to the icon in the system tray, which can be enabled through the Settings menu under Power & battery.
This update comes as a direct response to high demand from Windows Insiders and customers seeking more detailed and immediate battery status information. Microsoft’s decision to implement these changes reflects its commitment to user-centric design and functionality improvements.
Currently, the new battery icons are available to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. Microsoft plans to closely monitor user feedback before rolling out the feature to a wider audience.
