Valve Rolls Out Critical Fix for Steam Deck Boot Loop and Performance Issues

Valve Releases Fix for Steam Deck Client Update After User Complaints

Valve, the company behind the popular Steam Deck handheld gaming device, has released a corrective update for the Steam client following reports of significant issues with the initial update. The problems, which included boot loops and broken performance settings, emerged after an update was pushed to users on April 1st.

The original update, which coincided with a SteamOS update to version 3.6.24, was intended to address minor issues, improve download performance, and resolve problems with DualSense controllers. However, users quickly took to Reddit and GitHub to report new complications, most notably boot loops and missing GPU clock speed and TDP settings.

In response to these issues, Valve promptly “rereleased” the client update on the same day, as noted in the patch update notes. A separate update with similar fixes was also released to the beta channel.

The incident has raised questions about Valve’s beta testing process, as some users in the beta program reported experiencing TDP and GPU slider issues as early as March 19th. This has led to concerns about how these errors managed to reach the stable release despite being identified in the beta phase.

As the Steam Deck continues to gain popularity among portable gaming enthusiasts, this update hiccup serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by hardware manufacturers in maintaining seamless user experiences across software iterations.
