Volkswagen is revving up the electric vehicle game with the introduction of the new ID.3 GTX. While it may not be the electric Golf GTI, the ID.3 GTX is as close as Volkswagen has come to electrifying its iconic hot hatch. Unveiled alongside the ID.7 GTX Tourer, this new electric hot hatch is a powerhouse compared to the base model ID.3, packing more power and speed under its sleek exterior.
The ID.3 GTX comes in two versions, with the first variant sending a robust 210 kW to the rear wheels through a single motor. This configuration propels the car from 0-62 mph in just 6.0 seconds with a top speed of 111 mph. With a hefty 545 Nm of torque, the ID.3 GTX boasts performance figures that are strikingly close to the legendary Ferrari F40 – a fact that might make 90s kids weak in the knees.
For comparison, the ID.3 GTX’s acceleration matches the current Golf GTI Clubsport, which has 300 horsepower, 400 Nm of torque, and is 0.6 seconds quicker than the regular GTI. Moreover, the GTX’s rear-wheel-drive configuration promises a unique driving experience compared to the traditional front-wheel-drive Golf models, adding an element of excitement to the electric hot hatch segment.
Volkswagen has labeled all technical and performance statistics for the ID.3 GTX as “Forecast values.” Enthusiasts eagerly await to see if the electric hot hatch can deliver on its promised 373 miles of range, especially with the significant power increase compared to the regular ID.3. The ID.3 GTX introduces a completely overhauled infotainment system, along with distinctive exterior design elements to set it apart from the standard ID.3 lineup.
The exterior enhancements on the ID.3 GTX include GTX badging, a unique diamond-shaped front grille reminiscent of the Golf GTI’s iconic design, GTX-specific running lights, high-gloss black accents, redesigned side sills, and a new rear bumper and diffuser. Inside, the ID.3 GTX features premium sports seats as standard, red stitching accents, and an advanced infotainment system with new features like the IDA voice assistant and a wellness app, offering a blend of performance and technology.
In a bid to expand its electric GTX family, Volkswagen also introduced a GTX version of its ID.7 Tourer electric estate car. While specific performance details are still under wraps, the ID.7 GTX in Tourer form claims the title of the most potent estate car ever produced by Volkswagen. With unique design elements, including new wheel options, distinct styling cues, and upscale interior touches, the ID.7 GTX promises to deliver a thrilling and luxurious electric driving experience. Volkswagen has yet to announce pricing or release dates for these electrifying additions to its lineup, leaving enthusiasts eagerly anticipating the chance to get behind the wheel of these cutting-edge electric vehicles.
