The Nightingale’s Bold Move: FSR 3 Pre-Launch Crash Course

AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 has been making waves since its launch in September, promising a significant boost in performance for gamers. However, despite the hype surrounding this high-tech upscaler, it has yet to make its way into a substantial number of games. In contrast, Nvidia’s DLSS 3, a competing technology, seems to be gaining traction much faster, leaving many wondering why FSR 3 isn’t more widespread.

The highly anticipated Victorian craft-em-up, Nightingale, has recently entered its early access phase, but FSR 3 is notably missing from the game. Developer Inflexion Games revealed that they had encountered issues with FSR 3 causing crashes during their Server Stress Test. As a result, they made the decision to temporarily remove FSR from the game, with hopes of reintegrating it in a future update, possibly in an older version of FidelityFX.

Interestingly, while FSR 3 faced challenges with Nightingale, Nvidia’s DLSS and Intel’s XeSS, both utilizing a similar super-sampling technique, were seamlessly integrated into the early access launch. This discrepancy in implementation between different technologies sheds light on the complexities and nuances within the gaming industry when it comes to adopting new features.

It’s crucial to note that Nightingale is built on Unreal Engine 5, a popular choice for developers creating visually stunning games across various platforms. The compatibility of FSR 3 with Unreal Engine 5 is a key factor in determining its adoption rate, as game engines play a significant role in the integration process of such advanced technologies.

While Inflexion Games’ experience with FSR 3 highlights some challenges, it’s essential to remember that this is just one instance of potential issues with the technology. As FSR 3 continues to evolve and potentially overcome these hurdles, it may find its way into more games in the future. The gaming community eagerly awaits further updates and improvements from AMD regarding the implementation and performance of FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 in upcoming titles.
