Cyberattack Threatens Personal Data of Rhode Island Residents
In a concerning development, cybercriminals have launched an attack on Rhode Island’s online system for health and human services benefits, threatening to release the personal data of state residents. The hackers have demanded a ransom, though specific details of their demands have not been disclosed.

Programs affected by this breach include Medicaid, SNAP, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Childcare Assistance Program, Rhode Island Works, Long-term Services and Supports, At HOME Cost Share Program, and HealthSource RI.
In response to the security threat, the state has taken swift action by taking the RIBridges system offline. Deloitte, the system’s vendor, has confirmed a high probability of a data breach. The state government is collaborating with Experian to establish a toll-free hotline for affected residents, providing guidance on data protection and information about the breach.
