Chinese Electronics Giant Unveils Lightning-Fast Smartphone Charger

In a groundbreaking demonstration, Chinese electronics company Realme has showcased a 320-watt charger capable of fully charging a smartphone in just four and a half minutes. This technological leap marks a significant advancement in mobile device charging capabilities.

Dubbed the “320 W SuperSonic Charge,” Realme’s new charger boasts impressive statistics. It can charge a battery cell up to 26 percent in one minute, surpass 50 percent in two minutes, and achieve a full charge in a mere 4 minutes and 30 seconds. This narrowly outpaces competitor Redmi’s 300W charging technology, which requires 4 minutes and 55 seconds for a full charge.

At a recent Realme Fanfest event, a live demonstration showcased the charger’s prowess. The device charged a smartphone from 2 percent to 100 percent in just 4 minutes and 20 seconds, equating to a full percentage of charge every 2.65 seconds.

Realme’s remarkable charging speeds are achieved through a multipronged approach. Unlike most phone manufacturers that use single-cell batteries, Realme’s technology charges multiple battery cells simultaneously. The high wattage of 320 watts also contributes significantly to the speed, far surpassing standard smartphone chargers that typically use 5 to 20 watts.

For the demonstration, Realme utilized a specially built 4,420 mAh battery with four separate cells, folded to fit inside the smartphone. This setup allowed for the extraordinary charging speeds witnessed during the event.

While the technology is undoubtedly impressive, questions remain about its practical application and potential market debut. The use of multi-cell batteries, which tend to have lower capacities pound-for-pound compared to single-cell alternatives, may present challenges for widespread adoption.

Additionally, concerns have been raised about the impact of such high-wattage charging on battery health. While proper fast charging is generally considered safe, the effects of 320-watt charging on long-term battery performance remain uncertain.

Despite these potential hurdles, Realme’s demonstration proves that such charging speeds are indeed possible, opening doors for future advancements in mobile device technology. As the industry continues to evolve, consumers may soon see significant improvements in charging capabilities across various devices.
