When Qualcomm showcased its latest Snapdragon X Elite chips last October, there was a small hiccup in their argument. The comparisons were made against Intel’s older 13th-gen Core chips, which left room for skepticism. However, Qualcomm has now come forward claiming that their Snapdragon X Elite outperforms even Intel’s new Core Ultra chips. This revelation has certainly stirred up the tech world, making enthusiasts eager to get their hands on these new chips.
In their initial pitch, Qualcomm asserted that the Snapdragon X Elite could rival the performance of the Intel Core i9-13980HX while consuming 70 percent less power. This bold claim caught the attention of many, especially since Qualcomm specifically highlighted two Intel chips – the Core Ultra 7 155H and the premium Core Ultra 9 185H. The Snapdragon X Elite boasts 12 Oryon CPU cores, each clocking at 3.8GHz, with two cores capable of boosting up to 4.3GHz.
One fascinating aspect is Qualcomm’s departure from the traditional performance and efficiency core hierarchy. The Snapdragon X Elite, although built on the Arm architecture, takes a unique approach to maximize performance and power efficiency simultaneously. The benchmarks indicate that in single-threaded performance, the Snapdragon X Elite surpasses the Core Ultra 7 155H by 54 percent in speed at the same power consumption, with a 65 percent power reduction when performance is leveled.
For multi-threaded tasks, the Snapdragon X Elite shines as well. It outperforms the Core Ultra 7 155H by 52 percent in performance at equal power levels and reduces power consumption by 60 percent when normalized for performance. When pitted against the Core Ultra 9 155H, Qualcomm claims the Snapdragon X Elite boasts a 51 percent increase in single-threaded performance and a 41 percent lead in multi-threaded tasks.
Graphics performance is equally impressive, with the Snapdragon X Elite showcasing a 36 percent speed advantage over the Core Ultra 9 155H in the UL 3DMark Wild Life Extreme benchmark at the same power consumption. Qualcomm also proudly states that the Oryon core within the Snapdragon X Elite outperforms Apple’s M3 processor by a notable 22 percent according to the Geekbench 6.2 results.
Despite all these exciting revelations, Qualcomm has yet to disclose how the Snapdragon X Elite stacks up against Intel’s 14th-gen Core HX parts. Additionally, details regarding the exact battery life of devices featuring the Snapdragon X Elite remain undisclosed, leaving consumers eagerly awaiting further information on this groundbreaking technology from Qualcomm.
