Ploopy’s New 7-Inch Trackpad: Customizable Gestures and Palm Rejection for Windows and Linux Users

Ploopy Unveils New Seven-Inch Trackpad with Advanced Features

Ploopy, known for its mod-friendly peripherals, has introduced a new seven-inch trackpad that boasts multi-finger gesture support and palm rejection technology. This latest addition to their product line runs on QMK open-source firmware, allowing for extensive customization of its functionality.

The trackpad’s hardware is powered by a Raspberry Pi RP2040 and a Microchip ATMXT1066TD processor, with all components integrated into a single mainboard. This design choice facilitates easy case swapping for users interested in customization.

Slightly larger than Apple’s Magic Trackpad, Ploopy’s offering features a tracking area exceeding six inches and supports gestures using up to five fingers. The device is compatible with both Windows and Linux operating systems, though it requires a USB cable connection as wireless capabilities are not included in the base model.

Ploopy is offering the trackpad in two color options, gray and black, with prices starting at approximately $73 for a DIY kit and $94 for a pre-assembled unit. The DIY option requires basic tools such as a screwdriver, tweezers, and pliers for assembly. Customers can expect delivery within 20 weeks of placing their order.

For enthusiasts and modders, Ploopy has made the device’s design files open-source, enabling users to 3D print custom cases or modify existing designs. The mainboard’s easy transplantation into alternative cases further enhances customization possibilities.

While the 3D-printed case has received praise for its surface finish, the availability of open-source files allows users to experiment with different materials and designs, potentially expanding the trackpad’s aesthetic and functional options.

This release underscores Ploopy’s commitment to providing highly customizable input devices for tech enthusiasts and professionals alike, offering a blend of advanced features and modding potential in a single package.
