Peloton Launches Strength Plus App, Expanding Audio-Based Workout Options
Peloton, the popular fitness technology company, has officially launched its new app, Strength Plus, following a limited beta release. The app focuses on audio-based strength training, allowing users to customize their workouts based on length, equipment, experience level, and targeted muscle groups.
Strength Plus offers multi-week programs curated by Peloton’s renowned strength coaches, enabling users to complete workouts at their own pace with audio cues and tips from instructors. The app also includes a library of instructional videos for exercises and equipment setup.
Compatible with Apple Watch, Strength Plus allows users to log weights and reps within the app. One notable feature is the ability for users to listen to their music, audiobooks, or podcasts during workouts, enhancing the personalized experience.
This launch comes as Peloton seeks to capitalize on the popularity of strength training, which is the company’s second most popular exercise type. Previous attempts to expand in this area included the Guide hardware and Peloton Gym workouts, which saw limited success compared to Peloton’s treadmills and bikes.
Strength Plus enters a competitive market, with similarities to other strength training apps like Ladder. In response, Ladder has launched a Mac vs PC-style ad campaign. However, Peloton aims to differentiate itself by leveraging its well-known instructors and established brand.
The introduction of Strength Plus is part of Peloton’s strategy to expand its appeal beyond home workouts, as the company faces challenges with people returning to in-person gyms and classes post-lockdown.
Strength Plus is free for existing Peloton All Access, Guide, and App Plus members. New users can access a promotional subscription at $1 monthly for the first six months, followed by a $9.99 monthly fee. Currently, the app is only available on iOS, with no immediate information available regarding plans for Android expansion.
As Peloton continues to evolve its offerings, the launch of Strength Plus represents a significant step in the company’s efforts to diversify its product lineup and maintain its position in the competitive fitness technology market.
