Nintendo Switch 2 Revealed: Dual USB-C, NFC, and Wi-Fi 6 Upgrades Confirmed

Nintendo Switch 2 Confirmed: FCC Filings Reveal Key Details

Nintendo has officially announced the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, sparking excitement among gamers worldwide. While many details remain under wraps, recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filings have shed light on several key features of the upcoming console.

The FCC documents designate the Nintendo Switch 2 as “BEE-001,” with “BEE” serving as the identifier for the Switch 2 family. This follows Nintendo’s historical pattern of using unique designators for each product line. The main console is labeled as “001,” while the right and left Joy-Con controllers are designated as “014” and “012,” respectively.

One notable revelation from the filings is the inclusion of NFC support in the right Joy-Con, suggesting that the new console may maintain compatibility with Nintendo’s popular Amiibo figurines. This feature has been a staple of the current Switch model and its integration in the Switch 2 would be welcome news for Amiibo collectors.

In terms of charging capabilities, the Switch 2 boasts dual USB-C ports – one at the bottom and a new one at the top. Both ports have been confirmed to support charging, potentially offering improved flexibility for users.

The console’s connectivity features have also been detailed, with support for Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) networks. This upgrade allows for bandwidth up to 80MHz, a significant improvement over the Wi-Fi 5 capabilities of the original Switch. However, the absence of Wi-Fi 7 or Wi-Fi 6E support has been noted, with testing limited to 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.

FCC diagrams depict the Switch 2 being tested both with and without controllers and dock, reinforcing its nature as a hybrid console similar to its predecessor. Power specifications hint at potential improvements, with the Switch 2 rated for 15V and mentions an AC adapter supporting up to 20V. However, without specific amperage details, it remains unclear whether this will translate to faster charging or increased power when docked.

While Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will be released sometime this year, an exact launch date has yet to be announced. As anticipation builds, gamers and industry observers alike eagerly await further details on this next-generation gaming device.
