Moonwalkers Aero: Shift Robotics Launches Sleeker, Quieter Motorized Shoes for Indoor Use

Shift Robotics Unveils Lighter, Quieter Moonwalkers Aero

Shift Robotics has announced the launch of its latest innovation in wearable technology, the Moonwalkers Aero. This new version of the company’s motorized shoes promises significant improvements over its predecessor, offering a lighter and quieter experience for users.

The Moonwalkers Aero features a streamlined design with six wheels, down from the original’s ten. This reduction contributes to a substantial weight decrease, with each shoe now weighing 4.2 pounds compared to the previous 5.3 pounds. The weight savings come courtesy of a new magnesium alloy powertrain, making the Aero over a pound lighter per shoe.

In addition to the weight reduction, Shift Robotics has addressed noise concerns. The Aero boasts a 20dB reduction in operating noise, thanks to a newly implemented Neodymium magnet-based motor. This enhancement makes the Aero significantly quieter than its predecessor, potentially expanding its usability in various environments.

Despite these changes, the Moonwalkers Aero maintains the same top speed of 7mph and an average range of seven miles on a full charge. The exact range may vary depending on factors such as terrain and user weight, with the Aero supporting users up to 220 pounds.

Shift Robotics has also improved the Aero’s efficiency in hot environments with a new thermal and regenerative management system. This feature could prove beneficial for users in warmer climates or those working in heated indoor spaces.

The company has emphasized user-friendliness and longevity with the Aero, making every visible part user-replaceable. Additionally, the new model is designed to fit a wider range of shoe sizes, from women’s size six to men’s size twelve, with optional spacers available in two sizes for a more customized fit.

While the Moonwalkers Aero is positioned for indoor use, such as in warehouses with smooth concrete floors, the original Moonwalkers will continue to be offered as a more rugged option for uneven terrains. Both versions connect to a mobile app that offers preset modes for indoor, city, and sport use, along with customization options for acceleration profiles.

The Moonwalkers Aero comes with a slight price increase, retailing at $1,199 compared to the original’s $1,049 price tag. This new release from Shift Robotics represents a significant step forward in wearable mobility technology, potentially opening up new applications for motorized footwear in various industries and personal use scenarios.
