Microsoft Unveils Plans for AI-Ready Surface Devices in 2025
Microsoft is set to refresh its Surface lineup in 2025, following the introduction of its Copilot AI-ready Surface laptop earlier this year. The tech giant is expected to release new versions of the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop, potentially showcasing prototypes as early as October.
The upcoming models are anticipated to feature Intel Lunar Lake chips and will be designated as Copilot Plus PCs, boasting advanced AI capabilities. These new devices are poised to offer enhanced performance compared to their current Snapdragon counterparts.
Notably, these Intel-powered Surfaces will be the first to receive the Copilot Plus label, a distinction absent from the previous Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 models. This is due to the Intel Meteor Lake chips with NPUs in those earlier versions not meeting the requirements for the Copilot Plus designation.
In addition to AI enhancements, the new Surface devices are expected to feature several upgrades. An anti-reflective screen coating is likely to be included, while the Surface Laptop may see the addition of a card reader and 5G options. The Surface Laptop Studio is also anticipated to receive an upgrade from its current 13th-gen Intel chips, with the possibility of incorporating either Intel or AMD processors in the new models.
Battery life improvements are also under consideration, addressing feedback from reviews of current models.
Microsoft has confirmed the development of a Surface Studio 2 Plus all-in-one device, though details remain limited. For more comprehensive information on Microsoft’s upcoming Surface lineup, readers are directed to the full story available at The Verge.
