Microsoft Launches Native Copilot App for macOS
Microsoft has announced the release of a native Copilot app for macOS, bringing its AI assistant capabilities to Apple’s desktop operating system. The new app, which mirrors the functionality of its Windows counterpart, is set to launch today in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.
The macOS version of Copilot offers users access to Microsoft’s web-based AI assistant, enabling both image and text generation. Notable features include a dark mode option for enhanced user interface customization and a shortcut command (Command + Space) for quick activation, similar to the Windows version.
Alongside the macOS release, Microsoft has also introduced updates to the iPad version of Copilot. These improvements include a new split screen mode for improved multitasking and the ability to log in using an Apple ID. iPad users will also benefit from a new feature allowing the upload of text or PDF files to generate summaries or ask questions.
Microsoft has indicated that additional features are in development for the macOS app, including a document summarization function. This feature is expected to be added in a future update.
In recent changes to its Copilot services, Microsoft has removed usage limits on Copilot Voice and the Think Deeper feature for free users. This update allows unlimited use of Think Deeper, which is powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, as well as unlimited voice interactions with the AI assistant.
As Microsoft continues to expand its AI offerings across platforms, the release of the native macOS Copilot app represents a significant step in making its AI assistant more accessible to a broader range of users.
