Meta Unveils New Features for Threads, Challenging X’s Dominance
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is rolling out a suite of new features for its social media platform Threads, in a bid to compete more effectively with X (formerly Twitter). The update introduces tools catering to both casual users and brands, as Threads continues to grow its user base, now boasting over 175 million monthly active users.
One of the most notable additions is the ability to save multiple drafts, allowing users to store up to 100 unfinished posts. This feature addresses a common user request and enhances the platform’s usability.
The update also brings customization options to the Threads homepage. Users can now reorder pinned columns, offering a TweetDeck-like experience for monitoring multiple feeds simultaneously. This flexibility enables users to prioritize the content they want to see, potentially increasing engagement on the platform.
For brands and content creators, Meta is introducing a new Insights page. This analytics tool provides valuable data such as follower demographics and interaction metrics. Currently in early access for select users, the Insights page aims to help marketers better understand their content performance and audience engagement.
Looking ahead, Meta plans to introduce the ability to schedule Threads posts in advance. This feature is set to debut on the web version first, with mobile implementations under consideration.
These developments align with Meta’s strategy to position Threads as a serious competitor to X while maintaining its unique identity. Unlike X, Threads is not prioritizing news or political content, instead focusing on fostering a brand-friendly environment.
As part of its monetization strategy, Meta intends to introduce advertisements on Threads next year. The introduction of analytics tools and post scheduling capabilities is seen as a move to attract more companies and high-profile users to the platform.
With these updates, Meta continues to refine Threads, aiming to capture the relevance and user engagement that has long been associated with its rival, X. As the social media landscape evolves, the competition between these platforms is likely to intensify, offering users more choices and features in the process.
