Kagi Introduces Privacy Pass Feature for Enhanced User Anonymity
Kagi, the subscription-based search engine, has unveiled a new feature called Privacy Pass, designed to bolster user privacy and anonymity. This innovative addition allows users to conduct searches without the risk of their activities being traced back to them.
The Privacy Pass technology is built upon an authentication protocol standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force. It employs a token generation system for user authentication, where tokens are indistinguishable from randomly generated ones from the server’s perspective. This approach ensures user anonymity by preventing token linkage over time.
Vladimir Prelovac, CEO of Kagi, stated, “Privacy Pass adds an extra layer of trust by verifying search rights without revealing user identity. Our goal is to make tracking technically impossible, further enhancing our users’ privacy.”
The new feature can be easily enabled within Kagi’s settings and is available across multiple platforms. Users can access Privacy Pass through the Orion browser for macOS, iOS, and iPadOS, as well as via the Kagi app for Android and browser extensions for Firefox and Chrome.
For those seeking maximum privacy, Kagi can now be accessed directly from the Tor network using a specific onion address. However, it’s worth noting that without Privacy Pass enabled, searches remain linkable to a single account if the user is logged in.
Privacy Pass is included in Kagi’s Professional plan at $10 per month and the Ultimate plan at $25 per month. It’s also available in Family and Team plans. Due to technical limitations, the feature is not offered in the free plan or the $5 per month Starter subscription.
In a customer-friendly move, Kagi has assured users that they will not be charged if they forget to use their subscription, demonstrating the company’s commitment to fair pricing practices.
