Polk County got around $65 million during the first round of emergency rental assistance funding. Iowa Finance Authority says it put out $55 million of rental assistance in the past two years. On Friday, the agency announced an $8 million investment to build new housing for homeless people in Ames. Iowa as a whole is short about 55,000 low-income housing units. The group says as funding decreases, the need continues to rise. It says it gets 50 to 100 rental assistance applications every day.
