Apple Introduces New Video Recording Feature in iOS 18
iPhone users who have upgraded to iOS 18 now can record videos while audio is playing, thanks to a new camera setting introduced in the latest operating system update. This feature addresses a long-standing limitation where opening the iPhone’s camera app and switching to video mode would cause any audio playing to fade out.
The new “Allow Audio Playback” option is now available in the iPhone’s camera app settings. Users can access this feature by opening their iPhone’s settings, navigating to the Camera section, tapping on Record Sound, and turning on the “Allow Audio Playback” toggle.
With this setting enabled, audio will continue to play when recording video in the camera app. It’s important to note that audio playing through the device’s speaker will be recorded in mono along with the video, while audio playing through headphones will not be captured in the recording.
Previously, iPhone users could utilize the QuickTake feature in older versions to capture video in photo mode by holding down the shutter button. However, QuickTake videos were limited to 1440P resolution, whereas the dedicated video mode offers 4K resolution.
While using a video editing app remains the most comprehensive way to add music or narration to a clip, this update simplifies the process of recording videos with dance moves or lip movements that sync to a specific song.
This new feature in iOS 18 represents Apple’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and provide more flexibility in content creation directly within the native camera app.
