Hyundai Unveils Ioniq 9: A Three-Row Electric SUV with Advanced Features
Hyundai has revealed its latest addition to the electric vehicle market, the Ioniq 9, ahead of the LA Auto Show. This three-row all-electric SUV, built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, is the production version of the Seven concept introduced in 2021.
The Ioniq 9 boasts a substantial 110.3kWh battery, promising an impressive range of over 300 miles on a single charge. Hyundai is offering the vehicle in various configurations to cater to different consumer needs.
The Long Range rear-wheel-drive version delivers 214 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. For those seeking more power, the Long Range all-wheel-drive option combines a 70kW front motor with a 160kW rear motor. The Performance all-wheel-drive variant, featuring two 160kW motors, stands as the most powerful in the lineup, second only to the Ioniq 5N.
In a nod to charging convenience, the Ioniq 9 is equipped with Tesla Supercharger-compatible ports and includes an adapter for non-Tesla charging stations. However, the charging port location may present challenges for some Tesla Superchargers.
Inside, the Ioniq 9 transforms into a “living room on wheels.” The Calligraphy line features second-row “Relaxation Seats” with reclining, leg rest, and massage functions. These seats can swivel to face the third row, creating a versatile interior space. A slidable center console facilitates easy access to the third row.
The vehicle also incorporates a UV-C sterilizer for sanitizing personal items and offers over-the-air software updates. A “Features on Demand” app store allows for further personalization, with Hyundai confirming that basic features like heated seats will not incur monthly fees.
With the introduction of the Ioniq 9, Hyundai’s electric lineup now includes the Ioniq 5, 6, and soon 9, leaving room for potential future models. The Ioniq 9 will be manufactured at Hyundai’s new “Metaplant” in Georgia, a $7.6 billion investment in partnership with LG Energy Solution.
While pricing details are yet to be announced, production is scheduled to begin in spring 2025, with sales expected to commence in Q2 2026. The impact of potential U.S. tariff plans and changes to federal tax credits on production and pricing remains to be seen.
Hyundai’s commitment to offering diverse choices and advancing smart mobility is evident in the Ioniq 9’s development. As the electric vehicle market continues to evolve, the Ioniq 9 represents Hyundai’s latest step in meeting consumer demands for spacious, feature-rich electric SUVs.
