Helldivers 2 CPU Compatibility Issue: Older Processors Without AVX2 Support Left Behind

Helldivers 2 Players Face Compatibility Issues with Older CPUs

Players of the popular game Helldivers 2 are encountering difficulties running the game on older CPU models, according to recent reports. The issue stems from the game’s requirement for AVX2 support, a feature that has been standard in CPUs since 2013.

Initially, this requirement was not strictly enforced, allowing players with older hardware to access the game. However, recent changes have left some players unable to launch Helldivers 2, causing frustration within the gaming community.

On the official Helldivers 2 Discord server, players expressed their concerns, with some reporting significant time investments in the game before being locked out. One player even mentioned considering a refund due to the sudden inaccessibility.

In response to the growing concerns, server moderator Birby addressed the issue, explaining that the AVX2 check is currently experimental and may result in false positives. Birby emphasized the importance of meeting minimum system requirements but acknowledged that some players’ systems might not be upgradable, potentially necessitating new hardware purchases.

Arrowhead Game Studios, the developer behind Helldivers 2, is actively working to resolve the AVX2 compatibility issue. Community manager Baskinator communicated the studio’s ongoing efforts to address the problem and extended apologies to affected players for the inconvenience.

This is not the first challenge faced by PC Helldivers 2 players. Last year, Sony briefly required PSN accounts for PC users, a decision that was later reversed following negative feedback from the gaming community.

As of the latest update, Arrowhead Game Studios is in the process of developing a solution to the AVX2 compatibility issue. Players affected by this problem are advised to stay tuned for further announcements from the developer regarding the resolution of this technical hurdle.
