Google Unveils AI Advancements at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Event
Google has announced a suite of new AI features at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event, marking a significant leap in mobile AI capabilities. The tech giant’s AI assistant, Gemini, now boasts enhanced multi-app functionality, allowing users to perform complex tasks across multiple applications in a single interaction.
In a major shift, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 series will feature Gemini as the default on-device assistant, replacing the long-standing Bixby. This move signifies a deepening partnership between Google and Samsung in the AI space.
Gemini’s multi-app capabilities have been expanded to include support for Google apps and select third-party applications such as WhatsApp and Spotify. For Galaxy S25 users, integration now extends to Samsung’s native apps including Calendar, Notes, Reminder, and Clock. Users can now execute complex multimodal tasks, such as finding a restaurant and sharing details with a friend, all within a single prompt.
The voice-based Gemini Live has also received significant upgrades for the Galaxy S25, S24, and Pixel 9 series. Users can now share images, files, and YouTube videos with Gemini for instant feedback and information. Google has announced plans to incorporate Project Astra features like screen sharing and live video streaming to Gemini on Android shortly.
Circle to Search, Google’s visual search tool, has been enhanced to recognize phone numbers, email addresses, and URLs, streamlining user interactions. Additionally, AI Overviews in search results now support more visual content, improving image-based searches.
In a move towards greater accessibility, Google introduced changes to simplify the pairing process for braille screen readers and hearing aids with Android devices.
The event also saw Samsung unveil its Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra smartphones. A new Galaxy Watch for Kids mode was introduced for the Galaxy Watch 7 LTE, featuring child-friendly apps, watch faces, and enhanced parental controls.
These announcements underscore the rapid advancement of AI in mobile technology and highlight the growing collaboration between major tech companies in pushing the boundaries of smartphone capabilities.
