Google Enhances Chrome for Workspace Users with New Calendar Features and IT Controls
Google is rolling out a suite of new features for Chrome users with Workspace accounts, aimed at improving productivity and streamlining access to essential information. The tech giant announced today that Workspace users will now see a daily calendar overview when opening new Chrome tabs, providing quick access to schedules and video calls.
When signed in with an organization’s account, users will be able to view their appointments, meetings, and files stored in Google Drive directly from their browser’s new tab page. This integration is designed to keep employees connected and organized throughout their workday.
In addition to the calendar feature, Google is introducing enterprise-managed site shortcuts. IT administrators can now set up quick links to frequently used sites on the URL dropdown, a feature previously available only to regular Chrome users. For example, IT teams could program a site search for Reddit by typing “red.” This functionality can be applied to specific departments through group policy, enhancing efficiency across the organization. Notably, this feature will work even for users who are not on Workspace.
To help users manage their browsing habits, Chrome will begin nudging users about forgotten tabs, regardless of the device used. This feature aims to improve productivity by reducing digital clutter and helping users focus on active tasks.
For IT teams, Google is introducing more granular management controls, including profile-level security policies and managed browsing capabilities. These enhancements are designed to keep personal and work data separate in bring-your-own-device (BYOD) environments, addressing growing concerns about data privacy and security.
End users will also notice a new user interface when signing in to work accounts. This update clearly displays what data the company has access to on the device and separates personal bookmarks, extensions, and browser data into different profiles, ensuring a clear distinction between work and personal use.
These updates reflect Google’s ongoing efforts to improve the Workspace experience and provide IT teams with more robust tools for managing enterprise environments. As businesses continue to adapt to evolving work patterns, these new features are expected to enhance productivity and security for organizations using Google Workspace.
