Godox Unveils MA5R: A Versatile Magnetic Lighting Solution for Smartphones

Godox, a renowned manufacturer of professional photography equipment, has announced its latest innovation in smartphone accessories: the MA5R. This new device combines a magnetic power bank with diffused color-changing LEDs, offering users a versatile lighting solution for mobile photography and videography.

Priced at $49.99, the MA5R is currently available for preorder, though an official release date has not yet been specified. The device is designed to be compatible with MagSafe iPhones, Qi2 wireless standard smartphones, or any device equipped with a magnetic ring.

The MA5R boasts an array of features tailored for content creators. Its color-changing LEDs offer a wide spectrum of colors and temperatures, controllable via the Godox mobile app through a Bluetooth connection. Users can adjust the color temperature from a warm 1800K to a cool 10000K, providing ample flexibility for various lighting scenarios. Additionally, the device comes pre-programmed with 14 special effects, particularly beneficial for video production.

In terms of design, the MA5R includes a smaller LED on its reverse side, enhancing selfie lighting capabilities. A small display on the device shows battery life and brightness levels. The front-facing LED allows for color temperature adjustments between 2800K and 6500K. At 13mm thick, the device is noticeably bulky when attached to a smartphone.

The MA5R is powered by a 5,000mAh battery, capable of running the LEDs for up to 3 hours and 40 minutes at full brightness, or 7 hours and 20 minutes at half brightness. While it can function as a power bank, its capacity is limited, providing less than a full charge for most modern smartphones. It’s worth noting that wireless charging is disabled when the LEDs are in use, positioning the charging feature as secondary to its primary lighting function.

While the MA5R can be handheld, it lacks a standard tripod mount, which may limit its versatility for some users. Despite this, the device represents a significant step in mobile lighting solutions, potentially appealing to a wide range of content creators and mobile photographers seeking to enhance their smartphone imaging capabilities.
